A Demons site, including pictures and character profiles, is now up at ITV Mobile. Two possibilities about Zoe's character - either she's a descendant of the Mina Harker in Stoker's novel, or at some point it'll be revealed that she's the original Mina, rendered immortal by supernatural means. If it's the latter, she'll basically be this series' equivalent of Ella. And the answer is... Cursed as one of Dracula's victims, Mina and her husband Jonathan Harker tried to live a normal life after Dracula was killed by Quincey Morris; they even had a child who they named after the vampire slayer.
But instead of being cured when he died, Mina turned into a powerful vampire and stopped aging. After her husband passed away from old age, alone she found a cure via dialysis that at least suppressed her vampiric urges. The side effect of blindness is something she endures as a result.
When she helps her ally Rupert train up his godson Luke, she realises that for the first time in years she has friends and doesn't have to face the evils of the world all alone.

It looks great, doesn't it? The more info that leaks, the better it sounds.
What excites me most is that Mina Harker profile and the mention of her son, Quincey, as one of the villains. It promises the kind of emotional depth that I was hoping for but not really expecting. From Zoe Tapper's character being described, in throwaway fashion, as 'the love interest' in the original Mirror article to this - wow. I can't wait to see it.

Fully agree. The revelation that Mina has accepted blindness as the cost of keeping her vampiric nature in check is tragic, yet also underlines her inner steel and sheer forcefulness. She sounds the most interesting character by far.
When Demons is broadcast next year, I expect many people will tune in expecting the series to be 'Gene Hunt - Vampire Slayer', but I suspect it will be Zoe as Mina who ends up stealing the show.

Thanks again for posting that link, orokiah.
The current issue of Death Ray magazine (#16/Winter 2008) has a large feature on the Survivors remake, which includes a sidebar interview with Zoe Tapper. Her roles in Hex, Affinity and Demons are briefly mentioned.

Zoe Tapper features in the January 2009 edition of Arena magazine. The online version contains some pictures and an excerpt from the article: It’s tough being Zoe Tapper right now. Not only is she one of the last remaining members of humanity in the BBC’s Survivors, condemned to a bleak dystopian future of building chicken runs and being leered at by Max Beesley, but in January she’ll be turning into a vampire in ITV’s new blood-sucking drama Demons, alongside Philip Glenister and Mackenzie Crook.
“She’s quite complicated,” says the 27-year-old actress of her character, Mina Harker. “The series is set in the present-day, so I’m supposed to be about 125 years old. I look pretty good for my age. I really vamped it up, plus I got to sink my fangs into Gareth from The Office’s neck, which was fun.”Source

Below there's a link to an article that appeared in The Guardian on 01/12/08, about the current Who-inspired boom in British sci-fi/fantasy TV shows. Demons is heavily mentioned, along with Being Human, the third series of Primeval, and various other shows. The author speculates that as ITV's Drama department is being threatened with cutbacks, they're pinning a lot of hope on Demons being a success; www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/dec/01/televisionZoe Tapper features in the January 2009 edition of Arena magazine. The on-line version contains some pictures and an excerpt from the article. Arena seem to have taken a shine (excuse the pun) to actresses starring in Shine-produced series. The November 2008 issue had a feature on Katie McGrath, a.k.a. Morgana in Merlin. I've posted a link to the on-line version in the Merlin thread on the General Board.
