Kelly Preston has died, aged 57. While she was best known for being John Travolta's wife (they were married for 29 years) and she'd had a handful of leading roles early in her career, it was as a character actress that she truly excelled, and could always be counted upon to give a reliable and dependable performance in supporting roles. Her genre movies included 10 To Midnight (1983), Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn (1983), John Carpenter's Christine (1983), Spacecamp (1986), Amazon Women on the Moon (1987), Spellbinder (1988), From Dusk to Dawn (1996), Jack Frost (1998), The Cat in the Hat (2003) and a cameo in her husband's pet project Battlefield Earth (2000). On television she appeared in episodes of Blue Thunder, Tales From the Crypt, and had recurring roles in both Medium and CSI: Cyber. My favourite Preston performance? Although she never appeared in a Marvel or DC movie, in Hero High (2005) she played Jetstream, her world's most famous, popular and beloved superheroine. It was a role that suited her very well.

Have only just found out that actress Mira Furlan, best known for her work in American television, playing Delenn in Babylon 5 and Danielle Rousseau in Lost, died on 20th January. She was 65.

On a side note, when you consider that all the regular cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation (which came to an end before Babylon 5 began airing) and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (which ran alongside B5) are all still with us - with the exception of DS9's Aron Eisenberg and Rene Auberjonois, who both passed away in 2019 - it's actually quite unnerving to consider how many of the B5 cast have sadly gone beyond the rim, all before their time...
