I can't, which makes it even more annoying! It was an adult's book

I don't read half as many books as I should, to be honest; but I would like to recommend a The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.
I think it's a couple of years old but it wasn't brought to my attention until I read in a piece in SFX magazine about Peter Jackson will be turning this book into a movie once King King is finished. The writer of this article then went on to say that this was the only book that has ever made her cry.
Set in seventies USA, The Lovely Bones is the story of fourteen-year-old Susie Salmon ("like the fish") who was murdered by a neighbour on the way home from school. Susie narrates the story from her unique vantage point in her own personal heaven (where "life is a perpetual yesterday") as she watches over her family (as they all react to the news of her death in their own seperate ways), friends and her killer.
Definitely worth a look.
This will definitely be another string to the bow of Peter Jackson. (And that is coming from someone who didn't give a toss about Elijah Wood with stick-on ears taking about ten hours and three movies to take a ring from one place to another.)

The story talks about Brilliant physicist Leonardo Vetra, who was attempting to use science to prove the existence of God, has been murdered; his eyes plucked out and the society's ancient symbol branded upon his chest. His final discovery, anti-matter, the most powerful and dangerous energy source known to man, has disappeared. Langdon and Vittoria, Vetra's daughter, embark on a frantic hunt through Rome, following a 400-year-old trail to the lair of the Illuminati, to prevent the incineration of civilization. The Illuminati is considerd to an ancient secret brotherhood also known as the most powerful underground organization ever to walk the earth.
The Illuminati has surfaced from the shadows to carry out the final phase of its legendary vendetta against its most hated enemy... the Catholic Church.

oh lordy loo....not the Illuminati again. That's a bit of a catch all fall back isn't it....didn't they get the blame in Tomb Raider as well. Big Bad, The Lovely Bones is brilliant isn't it. It's the most interesting study of death and grief as well as being a brilliant novel and it's not all mysticism, it just feels natural and organic. I loved it.
