The changes to the cast in the 'rebooted' series of Being Human have been confirmed. Russell Tovey is still playing George the werewolf, but Guy Flanagan (Mitchell the vampire), Andrea Riseborough (Annie the ghost) aren't returning. Adrian Lester as the vampires' leader is also no longer in the series, and it's possible that his character has been written out altogether. Playing the roles of Mitchell and Annie when Being Human returns next year will be Aidan Turner (nope, me neither) and Lenora Crichlow ( Sugar Rush). The reports that they've recast and reimagined the show so it appeals to a younger, BBC3 demographic don't fill me with confidence for it though - that way lies the corpse of Spooks: Code 9. Be interesting to see how it pans out.

If I try and make a list of all the TV shows I watch, you'd think I do nothing but watch TV.
Ghost Whisperer Los Hombres De Paco (it's Spanish) Buffy, The Vampire Slayer CSI Two And A Half Men Mad Men Heroes LOST, but mostly because my boyfriend likes it, I don't. House MD Star Wars, The Clone Wars
And I've seen Veronica Mars Tru Calling (I love Eliza Dushku) Friends Just Shoot Me 8 Simple Rules Arrested Developement The Dresden Files
I dont like OC OTH Prison Break 24
and I absolutely hate Alias.
There is more, I'm sure.

I'm actually watching surprisingly few TV shows at the moment. The Sarah-Jane Adventures, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Neighbours (a guilty pleasure), Merlin and... well, that's it actually.
I've decided to stop watching the well-made but rather dull Sanctuary, I enjoyed the recently-ended Lost in Austen and No Heroics, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming Apparitions, The Devil's Whore and Demons.

So did anyone watch Phoo Action or Being Human? Brief recap: in February and March this year, BBC Three screened six separate pilot episodes, having announced that whichever was the most popular with the viewing public would be awarded with a full series. However, almost immediately after the first pilot Phoo Action was screened, it was leaked to the press that the Beeb - apparently confident that it would be a cult success - had already commissioned it as a series, thereby rendering the whole 'public reception' ploy totally meaningless. In the event, by far the most popular of the six pilots was Being Human, and following an internet fan campaign BBC Three relented and found the money to also commission it as a full series (rumour has it that BBC2 was waiting to pounce and nab Being Human for itself, if Three hadn't exercised their option on the show). Further developments: today comes the news that Phoo Action has been cancelled, despite £500,000 having already been spent on pre-production (construction of elaborate sets, cast and crew being placed under contract, etc) and filming about to begin. The re-casts of Being Human are a shame...but I'm willing to hold fire until I actually see it, mostly because Russell Tovey is still there and he's been excellent in..well...pretty much everything he's done but especially as lovelorn John Chivery in Little Dorrit.
My top tv at the moment is probably True Blood which is just consistantly great, but then I always loved Six Feet Under as well. Supernatural has been pretty good stuff this season so far too.
I'm loving my dose of costume drama courtesy of Little Dorrit. The serial format is perfect, much like it was for Bleak House. I'm struggling to get in to anything much else though. The current series of Heroes has been pretty dire so far.

Now Carol Vorderman has quit, what price the real Countdown going that way too?.. Got to hike those ratings up somehow. In case anyone hasn't already read it elsewhere, Channel 4 have announced who'll be taking Carol Vorderman's place in Countdown - a Oxford maths graduate named Rachel Riley. Here's a link to the story, with lots of photos; www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1088245/Essex-girl-fresh-Oxford-graduate--22-replaces-Carol-Vorderman-Countdown.htmlI can remember watching the very first edition of Countdown. Riley is 22, which means that Vorderman was presenting the show four years before her replacement was born. Ye Gods, does anyone else feel old?

I'm loving my dose of costume drama courtesy of Little Dorrit. The serial format is perfect, much like it was for Bleak House. It hasn't grabbed me as much as Bleak House but it's still beautifully made and acted and the theme couldn't be more apt at the moment - talk about perfect timing. Although Claire Foy makes a lovely Amy, the deliciously vile Mr Flintwinch is my favourite character so far. Alun Armstrong is wonderful. The format does work brilliantly in its bite-sized chunkness but I'm a fair few episodes behind so I tend to watch a couple in one go. I've still got the entire second series of The Sarah Jane Adventures to catch up on too.

Alun Armstrong is so perfect for Dickensean work. He has such a striking face...and Andy Serkis is great too. My favourite character at the moment is the dippy Edmund Sparkler...great name and despite the small role, Sebastian Armesto is scene stealingly excellent. Eve Myles is great too.

Link below to a brief report on the making of Being Human, written by a blogger called Geek Chic, who's playing a background vampire in the show. Geek Chic (who regularly posts on the SFX forum under the name narin) was invited by the producers to be an extra in the series because she set up the on-line petition to get Being Human commissioned as a series, which the BBC have said was a contributing factor in the decision to green-light the show. www.readingchronicle.co.uk/opinion/blog/geekchic/7241/

I'm intrigued by the sound of the all-new Herrick. I'm not that familiar with the actor who plays him (Jason Watkins), even though he's been in Little Dorrit recently and, looking at IMDB, tons of other things. Looking forward to seeing him in action.

A new sitcom started on ITV2 last week, called No Heroics. It's set in a world identical to ours, except that superheroes are commonplace. The series centres on four friends, who get together in an exclusive superheroes-only pub called 'The Fortress' (where costumes and using superpowers are both banned) at the end of a hard day's crimefighting, to chat, moan, bitch and gossip. Following it's run on ITV2, No Heroics is being repeated on ITV1 on Tuesdays, starting on 06/01/09 at 23:35.
