I need your help! Can you please tell me how you feel about being stereotyped. Have you ever been stereotyped, and if so as what? Do you think it's fair that today's youth are seen as stereotypes and placed in 'groups' that they don't actually belong in.
It's for my research, my class as beginning work for the Live Show and we're having pre-recroded inserts, and my proposal is an investigation about Stereotypes and today's teenagers and young adults as our target audience is aged 16 - 24.
I'd really appreciate any help you can give me and full credit will be given where it is due.

I kind of find stereotyping annoying. People tend to think your a goth or a charver. Im neither, and I the people who im friends with, about one or two could be glassed as 'goths' so to some of the idiots in my school Im automatically a goth. . Yeeeaaaah. Then theres charvers. Im not talking about the people who wear a berghaus and listen to rave music, fair enough if they do that, they can still be nice people. But theres the people who wear a berghaus and listen to rave, that bully, vandalise and abuse and automatically give everyone who looks like them a bad name. I dont liek charvers, but I do think its unfair that people are automatically stereotyped because they like the same clothes and music as them. Charvism is an attitude, NOT a style. Goths....are unfairly stereotyped. A lot of people automatically think that they worship the devil, and bully them just because they wear black clothes and listen to metal music. Some wont get to know them because of this, they judge them straight away. The same goes for charvers etc. I dont think its fair to be stereotyped, because everyone is unique, an individual. Yes,you do get people who'll do everything in there power to be seen as goth or charver but were not ALL like that. And I think a lot of older people stereotype my generation as all bad just because of a small number of people who are. Basically, dont judge a book by its cover

Now I really hope they choose this proposal. The more I look into it, the more I find really interesting, which means I can write more about it...it's becoming an unhealthy obsession I think lol

I was stereotyped as weird and suicidal at my school because I listened to different music and wore eyeliner. There wasnt really any "goths" at my school, it was a really rough area so there was just the "hard" people (ie, chavs) and everyone else, so I stuck out like a sore thumb. Even now I still get called a goth/dyke/mosher/hippy by certain types of people when I pass them on the street (which is absurd because I dont really look like any of the above).
I agree about the above sentiment about chavs. I dont have a problem with people wearing Burberry and listening to hard house, its the violent, nasty ones who cant have a pint without starting a fight that annoy me. Some bloke actually walked past me on the street the other day and asked me to come up to his flat because he wanted to have sex with me...I mean, what the hell did he expect me to do, fall at his feet saying "ooh, I love sexist pricks" However, I think many goths/punks are just as bad, as I've been called a chav walking down a street which is full of "gothy" kids (of course, by their definition a chav is anyone who wears trousers that dont sweep the streets while you walk) and they can be as hateful towards other groups as the chavs can sometimes.
I hate how older people view younger people in such a negative light just because our lives are different to theirs...if you choose to pierce your face, you get no end of dirty looks and comments, its ridiculous.
Bottom line though, I believe stereotyping is part of human nature...we needed our judgement in the days when we lived in tribes and didnt know who we could trust, so theres no point in denying it, because I dont think there is a truly unprejudiced person on this planet.
Sorry if a lot of this is wandering off the point, but I hope it helps a little at least!

Me too, all together I've got 3 pages worth of opinions, and I'm going to ask some people in my class during the presentation what they think. Hopefully getting them involved will work. I really have to sell this 'cause they're so picky lol!
