i have both the original films, have done since they were first available on dvd, and they are quite literally my all time greatest films ever! i also have the books and the manga adaptation, but i as of yet do not have all parts of that 
but they are awesome films, together and seperately, you dont need to have seen the first one to enjoy the second one! but the first was great for shock value, and the second continues the story left hanging at the end of the first film and was a great way to tie things about! but i got to agree with kneetroll, the second one is also my favourite, especially because of the new moderator/teacher they brought into it and the back story of the main girl!!!
awesome films one and all and i highly recommend getting the directors cut, and the special editions so u can watch the extras and glean more information out of the story and the characters
