I could well be a minority here, but is there any way of being able to use your own Avatar if you don't have your own website. (Not being a technical person, I presume that's what the URL link-thing means... a link to a picture on your own site.
Is it possible/legal to link to a picture on any site out there?

I get what your saying. Let's say you made your own avatar and called it: myavatar01.gif You'd need to go to a website like www.photobucket.com and set up a free account that allows you to host images especially for forums and such. It is legal, but not if you steal bandwidth. This would be if you, say, chose to use an avatar from my website and used: www.strangethoughts.co.uk/media/avatars/thelma.gifFor example! Hope that makes sense!

You needed an activation email for photobucket?! hm, I didnt. As long as your avatar is hosted on a site and you have a URL that works for it that's all you need. Post the addy in the space on your Modify Profile page and if it doesn't work...um...then try hosting it on another site. If photobucket isn't good for you try www.imageshack.us ;D

Yes, but this is hotlinking (even though it's from your own site) and Freewebs doesn't allow it - that's why your picture is missing. Image Shack or Photobucket are designed for hotlinking cos they know that free web servers don't allow it any more.

Hehe. Annoying ain't it? They used to, until Bandwidth (for some reason) became Gold and they had to start charging for it... I don't know how though. I mean, you buy their space but where do they get it from?

You should buy yourself some proper hosting and do it that way, I'm sure freewebz makes you pay through the nose for extra space.
