In the First Book of Enoch, he is mentioned as one of the chiefs of the 200 fallen angels (although Revelations claims there are far more). Azazel “taught men to fashion swords and shields” while women learned from him “finery and the art of beautifying the eyelids,” He is the scapegoat of rabbinic literature and in Leviticus 16:8, although he is not mentioned by name. He is sometimes called “that fallen yet mighty angel.” In The Apocalypse of Abraham he is “lord of hell, seducer of mankind.” His true from is a demon with 7 serpent heads, 14 faces, and 12 wings. Jewish legend speaks of Azazel as the angel who refused to bow before Adam. For such a refusal, he was dubbed “the accursed Satan.” According to legend, when told to bow before Adam, Azazel commented “Why should a son of fire fall down before a son of clay?” For this, Azazel was cast from heaven. Milton, in Paradise Lost describes Azazel as Satan’s standard bearer (which seems to conflict with older authorities). Oh yeah and according to a recent story arch in Uncanny X-Men, Azazel is the same as Lucifer or Satan... and Nightcrawler’s father. But that hardly counts as a reputable source on the matterraziel.secondfoundation.org/Angels/azazel.html

Obviously a fictional series can bend and twist history to its hearts content to make something fit a story. And we all know that Azazeal, although based on a "real" religious figure, isn't actually based 100% on fact. However, the real Azazel wasn't the leader of the Nephilim. He was a leader, but he was one of the Fallen Angels who "fell to Earth" and mated with Mortal Women. The Nephilim were the offspring of the Angels and the Women. They were believed to be births of untimely miscarraige or abortion. The Nephilim were half-breed Human/Angel species who were known as "giants" as they were so tall and strong. Dave Tyrel stated that the Nephilim's end came when God, "not at his most merciful, cast them into the abyss where they have remained ever since". This is not true. Azazel, as punishment for teaching men how to make weapons and teaching women magic and vanity - all secrets that man and woman was not meant to know, was sent into the desert, (a place called Dudael) where he is to remain until his judgement. The Nephelim, however, destroyed one another when the Arch Angel Gabriel was sent to start a civil war amongst them by God. Azazel also appears in Islamic mythology (as Djin) who refused to worship Adam and lusted after Mortal Women. The Nephilim are written in the Jewish Dead Sea Scrolls as "Giants". They also feature in The Book of Enoch and the Fallen Angels briefly appear in The Bible. you all seem to love the whole myth thing here and i love that you love it....for funs sake the srory of the grigori (watchers) and the nephilim (giants bron of angels) go's even further back from their latin names and Djin precepts...in fact there is written evidence for an ancient race of beings in kurdistan which bore the appearence of the watchers. the suffered a great flood and over 80% of the population was destroyed along with their home the secred garden of Eden! the survivors migrated down into persia, unfortunatley these peole where tall and white with long golden/white hair unlike the persians and others in the surrounding are who where dark in hair and skin couloyr. these men mated with the peopleand bore children which resembled them. they eventually died out and stries of eden the flood and the plauges of eden where lost, changed and taken by the many religions we know today......quick note, still today some children are born today with the aooearence of the fallen angels of kurdistan.. ;D

Ok..I know this topic has been quiet for a bit, but I have to say after reading the post.. It makes me more intersted in this part of mythology...
I am really into Greek and Roman mythology, but never paid attention to the rest.. Now I need to make a run to the library to see if I can find anything good.

Hi. I'm new here, my name is Adrian, and I've read some of these posts with a great deal of interest. The members are very knowledgeable and the posts are always interesting.
I just wanted to ask, in regard to Archangel Gabriel - he was the angel sent to instigate a civil war among the children of the angels and human woman, right?
Angel Gabriel is not mentioned too many times both in the Bible and in actual mythology, but he seems to have played an important part in the history or at the least the downfall of the Nephilim.
Would there be a strong connection between Gabriel and the fallen angels? Such as animosity between he and Azazel? And have you ever heard of the theory that at least one angel researcher has that some archangels - and possibly even Lucifer himself - have incarnated as humans in times of great trouble or upcoming extraordinary events in human history?
Do you think this is possible and could happen in our lifetimes?
Sorry for all the questions! This is truly one of the best forums I have found and I am glad to be on here.
Thanks for any information you can provide.
