I think it's clear now that Peggy won't be returning for series two, but I've thought of something that gives it good reason.
Thelma and Peggy are ghosts - we all know that ghosts are the remnants of a persons soul that feels it can't move on because it wasn't ready to leave.
Thelma - she was murdered and she loves Cassie with her whole life, so she feels she must stay and protect her from Azazeal.
Peggy - Peggy had spent 80 years trying to figure out the Akhetaten inscription. At the end of series 1 Thelma had helped her figure it out (it was about Az and his brat) so perhaps she moved into the light?

..as does the Commander if indeed he's not coming back *sniff*
I have faith in them though, hopefully all the newbies and any disappearing oldies (for lack of a better word) should hopefully come with backstories and explanations

I was just wondering if all the Peggy haters have changed their minds about her, following the events of episode #2 of the second series.
It seems to me that most people were anti-Peggy because they believed she would come between Cassie and Thelma. Well now a ruddy great knife has come between Cassie and Thelma, so what does everyone think about Peggy now?
I'd like to see her return one day, if not later in this series, then the next (fingers crossed there will be another series, of course). Peggy was kind, provided Thelma with a shoulder to cry on (amongst other things), and Thelma confided with her about things she didn't even tell Cassie about.
Besides, Thelma needs a sex life.

Absolutely! I loved Peggy, she was everything that Thelma needed at the time, and I would be so pleased if she made another appearance. Although she did mention that she didn't return to the school often, just to study the Egyptian tablet thing, so maybe now its solved she's hanging wherever she normally lurks. Then again there is always the fact that Jaime murdered her with a hoover then threw away the remains.

Thelma - she was murdered and she loves Cassie with her whole life, so she feels she must stay and protect her from Azazeal. So technically, Thelma's lived her purpose and she can move on.

I hope Peggy does come back because she was a character that had lots of potential but just seems to have disappared...without a trace.

Thelma - she was murdered and she loves Cassie with her whole life, so she feels she must stay and protect her from Azazeal. Good point Matt, however Cassie told her (spoiler highlight for those who've not seen episode 3) that she's still got a job to do, that Ella needs her help so perhaps that's why she's still there, for cassie. So technically, Thelma's lived her purpose and she can move on.

It's intriguing that Peggy is arguably one of the show's most memorable characters, considering she has such a minor role. It's been awhile since I watched Series One, but I strongly suspect that if you added up the amount of time Peggy's on screen, it's probably fifteen minutes or less.
No doubt Peggy's popularity is partly due to the way the character is written, and to Kathy Carmichael's sparkling performance (it wasn't until I looked her up on the IMDB that I realised it was the same actress who played Twist in Spaced). However, I think it's also perhaps because of Peggy's uniqueness within the Hex mythos.
To explain: In the second series of Hex, the show is stuffed to the gills with supernatural beings. There's Ella Dee, 442 years old and Last of the Anointed Ones; Azazeal and Thelma of course; Jez/Ramiel, Sariel and two other Nephilim; Perie the faerie; Malachi, the Messiah of the Fallen Angels; the archangel Raphael and his counterpart, the demon Mephistopheles; Maya and Tom as ghosts; Jo's transformation into Hell's emissary; and eventually the entire school body becoming an army of succubus and incubi.
However, in the first series the number of otherworldly individuals was few indeed. There was only Azazeal, a ghostly Thelma, and (if you think it counts) Cassie with her slowly awakening powers. In this scenario, the inclusion of another ghost was A Big Deal, and therefore quite memorable.
Peggy is also unique in that she's the only supernatural character who isn't directly linked into the Azazeal/Nephilim/End of Days storyline. Instead, Peggy's just some nice young woman who lived at Medenham ninety years ago, dropped dead from the flu during the 1918 pandemic, and has wandered the Earth ever since, finding ways to keep herself occupied and totally oblivious to the ongoing battle between Ella and Azazeal.

I think that's why I liked Peggy so much. She was a foil to all the grandiose battle of heaven and earth stuff that was going on around her. Her relationship with Thelma was sweet and touching.
The fact that nearly everyone in series 2 was supernatural in some way just goes to show one of the biggest flaws and why they got themselves so impossibly snarled up plot wise in the end. Even now it makes me cringe just thinking of all those loose ends.

obviously we could talk about the show's flaws to no end and sadly come up with more plot holes than anything... but I think its flaws made it somewhat charming in the end. I can't explain why,cos the show was a flop. But it's OUR flop ;D

I know what you mean kneetroll, and you've just highlighted something I've always found interesting about Hex fans.
If you go onto most message boards dedicated to genre TV shows (Buffy, Charmed, and New Who spring to mind) you usually find an extremely vocal handful of fans who - judging by the tone of their posts - seem to be quite young, and who refuse to brook even the mildest criticism of the series in question. An average post from one these uber-fans usually consists of "Show X is the greatest show EVER all the episodes are brilliant if you don't agree you're stupid" etc.
However, you don't tend to see such comments from Hex fans. Even the most die hard admirers of the show (amongst which I count myself) appear to freely admit that the series had some serious flaws. We love the premise, the characters, and the cast, but we're quite open about the fact that the first season was probably too slow moving, that several subplots were introduced only to end up as loose threads left dangling, that the storyline went seriously wrong half-way through season 2, and that although the show had bags of potential, that potential was ultimately left unfulfilled.
Yep, that's Hex in a nutshell. Yet still we love it, flaws and all.

Very well said!! I am on a TV Lovers BB and recently badgered someone from it into watching the HEX marathon that BBCAMERICA had for Halloween. As much as she knows I gush about the show I had forewarned her about all the flaws of the series. Intersesting like me she became a huge Cassie fan and the allure of the show kinda faded for her when Cassie died, but she loved but could see the problems of the show. BTW, I am very far off from my teen years!! lol
Tina
P.S. I am rather curious how much forewarning the writers had that Christina Cole wanted out. How quickly did they have to rewrite whatever their initial story had been.
