Last Tuesday (18/12/12) was the seventh anniversary of the final episode of Hex being screened. Just belatedly marking the occasion. I'd forgotten about this until you bumped the thread, fenris. Seven years seems like nothing: I vividly remember watching the last episode and flicking through my Christmas TV guide, convinced there was no way they were going to end it like that, and there must be an episode fourteen in there somewhere. And here we are, still hanging. It's also hard to believe that Hex itself, in the not-too-distant future, will be TEN.

By either coincidence or design, with hindsight Ella Dee was at the forefront of a mini-wave of gorgeous Gothic female arse-kickers that swept across British telefantasy. Here are some of those who followed in her wake (let me know if I've missed anyone); Susan Death (Michelle Dockery) in Hogfather. When Downton Abbey debuted, most of the UK wondered why they'd never heard of Michelle Dockery before. Those of us who'd seen her steal the show as Death's granddaughter in the adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Hogfather several years earlier knew who she was. Ingrid Dracula (Clare Thomas) in Young Dracula. In my humble opinion, Young Dracula is probably the best British horror/fantasy series since Hex ended, and Thomas as Ingrid is probably the best thing in it. Mina Harker (Zoe Tapper) in Demons. Hex's sister show. Mina and Ella are surely siblings in leather. Morgana Pendragon (Katie McGrath) in Merlin. In any other series, a lone woman organising & leading the resistance against a genocidal tyrant king would be the heroine. In Merlin, she was the arch-villain. Go figure. Emily Merchant (Ruth Bradley) in Primeval. When Primeval returned after a two-year hiatus, the producers knew they needed a hook to bring back previous viewers and attract new ones. Enter leather-clad Victorian time-traveller Emily Merchant. Job done. Adora Belle Dearheart (Claire Foy) in Going Postal. Another deliciously dark Pratchett heroine. In a bizarre coincidence, Foy was also cast in the BBC's ill-fated revival of Upstairs Downstairs, that went head-to-head with Downton Abbey.

Time for the annual bumping of the thread.
The other anniversary is getting scarily close now. On 17th October 2014, it'll be a whole decade since Hex first aired on Sky One. Wow.

I'm already feeling old, due to the fact that it's been ten years since Strange was first screened (and still no DVD release).

Thanks for the link, orokiah. I don't remember anything about a potential TV movie, and I'm pretty certain that the large community on this board back then would have been all over even the vaguest of rumours like a rash. Although it's nice to see Hex remembered, as that article was posted on Cultbox nearly four months ago (7th July 2014) it's particularly galling to scroll down to the bottom of the page, only to see 'O Comments'.

Nine years. Nine years.

TEN YEARS. A. Whole. Decade. I've said it before, but Christ I feel old. The most galling thing is that throughout the entire last ten years, despite Demons, Trinity and more recently Midwinter of the Spirit all possessing a strong Hex vibe, and CBBC's Young Dracula and Wolfblood being highly enjoyable, no TV series has yet come along that - in my humble opinion - can match Hex.

As I've posted previously on this thread, one of the most frustrating things about the passage of time since Hex ended is that despite some subsequent TV shows possessing a strong Hex vibe (sister show Demons, American series Point Pleasant, ITV2's Trinity, and last year's Midwinter of the Spirit), ultimately no series has come along that could match it. Until now...
I've written elsewhere on this forum about Danish television series Heartless, which lasted two short seasons (five episodes in 2014, a further three in 2015) and was reported as being very similar to Hex. Having now seen Heartless for myself, I can report that in my humble opinion, a true and worthy successor to Hex has finally been found.
I've no idea if the creators of Heartless were influenced by Hex or if they're even aware of our favourite show, but considering the large number of common elements the two series share (private boarding school setting, resident ghost, witches, lesbian protagonist, cursed bloodlines, succubi, telekinesis, flashbacks to the witch trials, etc), if they've never heard of Hex it's truly a remarkable concidence.
I'm convinced that Ottman Boarding School (formerly Ottman Manor, and Heartless's central location) is twined with Medenham Hall. Watch Heartless and you'll think so too.

I need to find this show now, something that will help mend my broken heart that HEX was axed all those years ago!
I miss HEX so much but I keep in contact with Jemima via social media which is cool. She was my favourite actress in the show and her character helped me in many ways so her as a person has a big space within my heart and I like to follow her work. I actually saw her in One man two guvnors when the show was travelling! What talent that girl has!

A bit late posting about this, but eight days ago (18/12/17) was the twelfth anniversary of the final episode of Hex being broadcast.
