Thanks for posting that, orokiah. Good news indeed. It's a shame that of all the leading Hex cast-members, Laura has been the least visible since the series ended. Let's hope that from here onwards we see a lot more of her. Spoiler font: It'll be interesting to see Laura playing a victim. I'll be watching it, half-imagining her slipping back into Ella-mode and kicking the crap out of her attacker.

Let's hope that from here onwards we see a lot more of her. Agreed - and it seems we already are! I didn't realise it until now, but in addition to her upcoming appearance in The Bill, Laura Pyper was a guest star in Doctors last Monday (10th December). A synopsis of the episode, 'The Big Issue', is here at Digital Spy. Laura's character is called Hannah. The Beeb have made the episode available to view, in its entirety, here. It's only there for another day or so, so make the most of it before it disappears altogether. Here's hoping there'll be more to come from her in 2008.

I 'd just like to echo rob's thanks for the continuing updates, orokiah. And rob, your Laura site continues to impress.
There's a recent post on Laura's message board on the IMDB which claims that Laura has been working on a short horror film called Hatch, which was filmed in and around London and will be released in the UK in February 2008 (whether released on-line or on DVD, the post doesn't say). I've searched for further info about Hatch, but have drawn a blank.

Site's looking great, rob. I've searched for further info about Hatch, but have drawn a blank. Depending on who the producers are, they might just be submitting it to festival. I'd like to get to a couple this year so I'll be looking out for it if that was the case. It would be nice if more short films were made available online, though. YouTube and other sites have made getting them out there a lot easier, and one with Laura in the cast would certainly find an audience, albeit not that huge of one. Also: Omagh, one of Laura's pre- Hex projects, is being released on DVD in the UK on 3rd March.

Although I'd recorded the 'Shadow Stalker' episode of The Bill, I didn't get around to watching it until this morning. Great performance from Laura, especially as she had to spend practically the entire episode looking either numb with shock or scared out of her wits, apart from the moment when her character was confronted by her ex-boyfriend, whereupon she flared into anger.
Also, as I'd previously only seen Laura in Hex and her cameo in The IT Crowd, it was interesting to finally hear her natural voice and accent (assuming she hadn't softened or altered it slightly for the role).

I haven't seen her on the IT Crowd because we don't get it here, but I'm thinking that the way you're describing her voice there is how she naturally sounds. On BBC America, stars of various shows are on these "A Little 'Brit' Different" promo/station ID bumpers, and Jemima Rooper sounds exactly as she does in Hex in hers, but Laura sounds more like how you're describing and not the way she didn in Hex.

Laura Pyper is appearing as Mandy Glover again in The Bill. The episode is called 'Spilt Blood' and airs on 28th February at 8pm on ITV1.
Episode synopsis (contains spoilers):
Sergeant Callum Stone (Sam Callis), along with PCs Sally Armstrong (Ali Bastian) and Tony Stamp (Graham Cole) are called to a club where worried Mandy Glover (Laura Pyper) claims her younger sister, Kate (Fiona Ryan) has gone missing. CCTV footage shows Kate leaving the club with the manager, Iain Andain (Daniel Brocklebank) and walking towards an alley way where Stone and Sally later find her badly beaten.
Iain is brought in for questioning where he confidently tells the officers that he had sex with Kate that she consented to. At the hospital, Sally is surprised when Kate’s statement matches Iain’s and claims she received her injuries from a mugging. Back at the station, Stone learns that Iain had two previous allegations of rape against him but both cases were dropped. Sensing that Kate is covering, Stone gets his officers to interview a previous victim who admits that she dropped the charges after Iain threatened her with a knife.
Elsewhere, DS Max Carter (Christopher Fox) and DCs Stevie Moss (Lucy Speed) and Terry Perkins (Bruce Byron) are on a sting with drug dealer, Kieran Sudbury (Philip McGinley) who has agreed to help them with a drugs raid. While waiting for the suspects to arrive, Stevie soon realises that Kieran has been taking them for a ride and is furious when he manages to escape.
After further investigation, DI Samantha Nixon (Lisa Maxwell) discovers that Iain knows the big time drug dealer they’re after and Iain tells her he’s willing to help if Stone backs off about the rape allegation. Sally and PCs Will Fletcher (Gary Lucy) and Ben Gayle (Micah Balfour) are furious that the rape charges have been dropped against Iain but Stone assures them that Iain won’t get away with it. He later encourages the young PCs to dish up their own brand of justice but they are shocked by the decision they have made.

Thanks for that info, orokiah. Judging by that synopsis, Laura only appears briefly in the episode, but it'll be nice to see her again.
An observation: if an actor or actress impresses a director, producer and/or casting agent with their talent and professionalism (ie: turning up on time, knowing their lines, doing extra research for a role, not displaying any diva-like behaviour, etc), they make a mental note to use that individual again if the opportunity arises, because they know he/she is reliable. And I suspect that's what happened here.
My guess is that originally Kate's sister was going to be a completely new character, but at some point The Bill's production staff decided that they could save the time and expense of casting the role by seeing if Laura was available (she was) and then changing the character to Mandy.

Mandy's appearance this time sounds like no more than a cameo, so I think you're probably bang on with that guess. I still have my fingers crossed there's more to it and it'll turn out to be a recurring role, though.

Another good performance from Laura, in a role that required her to display quiet (and often not-so-quiet) desperation in all of her scenes. Much as I'd like Mandy to become a recurring character, I doubt we'll see her again. She's been menaced by an obsessive stalker, her flat's been burgled, she's fallen victim to a predatory therapist, and now her kid sister's been raped. If something happens to bring her to the attention of Sun Hill police again, it'll make her the unluckiest girl in London.
