Wow, now is a good time for British Genre. Hex has proven that it can be successful if done well...and shown on Sky One.

I'm not so sure, with the exception of the original Doctor Who, Home Grown Genre doesn't generally do too well on terrestrial.

But if the new series works, there is going to be a HUGE surge in possible genre programming.
(The only exceptions the non-successfull rule were Blakes 7, Red Dwarf, Goodnight Sweetheart - which everyone was banned to associate it with Sci-Fi and the original Doctor Who.)
Sky One has had it's lacklustre genre shows as well. The Strangerers was dull, for example. Hex is it's only Grown Genre Hit series.

For the last several weeks, BBC1 has been screening Waterloo Road, a drama series about a school, on Thursday evenings. I've never gotten around to watching the show, despite the fact that it stars two of my favourite actresses, Camilla Power and Jill Halfpenny.
Anyway, I happened to catch the last five minutes of this week's episode, and guess who I saw - the gorgeous Anna Wilson-Jones, playing a schools inspector. I believe she's in next week's episode as well.

Afterlife is being repeated on ITV1 every Sunday at 21:00, starting tomorrow (23/07/06).
I never saw the series when it was originally screened, so I'll be setting the video.

The second series of Afterlife starts this coming Saturday (16/09/06) on ITV1 at 21:00.
It's been confirmed that Anna Wilson-Jones appears in the first episode. I don't know if she's a regular for the rest of the series though.

Have seen a trailer on BBC1 for the new series of Spooks, which starts tomorrow (17/09/06) and I think I spotted a brief glimpse of Anna Wilson-Jones, bound, gagged and (understandably) looking terrified.

Interview with Anna Wilson-Jones from the publicity release for The Time of Your Life, © ITV and ITV Productions.
Contains slight spoilers for the series so I've blacked out the first few paragraphs; highlight to view:
ANNA WILSON JONES plays Sally
Sally is a professional PR woman, who is very good at her job, but she certainly works hard and parties hard too. She's a bit of a man-eater, a drinker and a smoker. She lives life to the full - but is she happy? Anna explains all...
"Sally lives life to the full and you would think that she enjoys that kind of single life with a lovely flat but deep down she is very lonely. That sort of life is great for a certain time in your 20's or early 30's, but she is mid-30's and she's starting to think 'is this what life is all about?'"
Sally suddenly realises she hasn't got anyone, and with each relationship she tends to get close to someone and then pushes them away...
"In the first episode she ends up going to this party and brings a guy home. After they go their separate ways, she realises that she has slept with her new boss when he arrives for a meeting the next day!"
Aside from feeling rather foolish about this, Anna thinks that Sally's feelings towards men stem from her childhood...
"I think she has a fear of being close to somebody. I think this is possibly to do with Brian who died. She was in love with him and he messed her around by sleeping with other girls. I think at that young age that sort of thing can form the rest of your life, so she never wanted to trust a man again. For her it's better to be this strong woman and put on a determined face and be strong in other areas of her life. She spends most of her time going out and when she's at home it's a bottle of wine and a cigarette for company."
Out of all Kate's friends, Sally in particular would rather forget the moment Kate went into the coma...
"Sally is just as shocked as her other friends when Kate awakes, but it's extra awkward because that was the night when Brian was killed, and no-one knows how it happened. I think inside Sally is anxious and fearful of what her awakening will bring out in her."
"It's always going to be awkward because we were best friends at school, but as with many old friends, you knew each other 20-years ago, and people change. They don't really know each other at all anymore and naturally they have all gone down different paths in life."
Sally learns that most of her friends are now married with kids...
"There's a scene where my character and Amanda (Olivia Colman) have a chat and almost say, "I wish I was more like you" to each other. They are both looking at the greener grass on both sides which everyone does."
"Having said that, I think Kate relates to Sally more because she is still single, and my character tries to teach her things about relationships and fashion for example - although there is one scene where Kate walks in on Sally having sex, so that's not necessarily the smoothest lesson!"
Anna admits that The Time of Your Life is a unique project, and how great it was to work with some old friends too...
"The Time of Your Life is a much darker 30-something drama. There are funny things in it but they are funny because of the situations. Something like Cold Feet was great, but this is different. The director David likes to capture the realism of these situations that Kate and her friends face. He has been amazing and so fantastic with all the actors."
"It was great to work with Susannah Wise who plays Susan again. We did a play called Life After George a while ago and we are great friends. I've also worked with Jemima in Hex, As If and Sugar Rush, so we've worked together a lot. In fact if I started a job and she wasn't there it'd feel quite strange!"
However filming for such a long time has helped Anna to form friendships too...
"We've had some great times on set for this. Everyone has got a great sense of humour, especially Rob Pugh and Geraldine who have me in stitches quite a lot. They are very funny and make you feel comfortable straight away."
"However I am looking forward to spending more time with my daughter Agatha who is nearly two years old. I've recently had back to back filming this, and since Hex, and Afterlife. I am really looking forward to enjoying time with my baby."

Here's another new interview with Anna Wilson-Jones; similar in parts to the one I posted above (avoiding double posting on here is becoming increasingly difficult ) but it still makes for interesting reading: Having played the moping wife of Andrew Lincoln's Robert in Afterlife, actress Anna Wilson-Jones has become a man-eating, heavy-drinking, career woman in ITV1 drama The Time Of Your Life, writes Jonathan Donald.
Anna, 37, plays Sally, the troubled old school friend of central character Kate, grappling with life after awakening from 18 years in a coma.
"It was such good fun doing scenes of getting drunk and smoking," she says.
Playing Sally did see Anna have to lose her inhibitions as she undertook scenes of a very sexual nature involving nudity and a bit of sadomasochism.
"I was fine about it because of what it was, who it was with, and because David Blair was directing," she says.
"I didn't feel awkward at all, and I thought I might. I did wake up on the morning and gasp but once on set I thought 'For goodness sake, we're all naked underneath.' So, it was fine."
Anna, like the rest of the cast, was eager to be part of the production due to the writing and the revered director Blair (The Lakes and The Street.)
"It was one of those jobs I really wanted ," says the actress, whose other TV credits include Hex and Monarch Of The Glen.
"It was a combination of the script and David Blair." The actors were kept on their toes throughout, with some scenes left unscripted.
With Kate locked in the 1980s, Anna was reminded of much about her youth.
"The clothes were a big thing, but also the music," says the actress, originally from Woking in Surrey.
"I used to go to loads of concerts. Things like Kajagoogoo, Bauhaus, Japan at Guildford Civic Hall. I'd dress up in unbelievable outfits. Lots of make-up, ra-ra skirts and I had a fluorescent and black suit I really loved." The fashion fiascos of youth!
Something must have been in the water supplied on set during The Time Of Your Life as both Anna and co-star Olivia Colman fell pregnant.
"It was hilarious," says the actress who is expecting her second child, with her husband, this month. They already have a two-year-old daughter, Agatha.
"I've recently had back to back filming, what with Hex, Afterlife and The Time Of Your Life, so I'm looking forward to enjoying time with my baby."
Afterlife ended with little prospect of another series when Andrew Lincoln's Robert seemed to pass away and join the son he and wife Jude tragically lost.
Anna confirms there will be no more, but it was down to ratings rather than the story reaching a natural end.
"The will was there, but the ratings just weren't good enough for ITV," she says. "It's a shame."

Do I understand correctly that Afterlife has been cancelled, too? If so, that really stinks. They showed what I believe was season one here on BBC America last year and I really got into it.
