Do I understand correctly that Afterlife has been cancelled, too? If so, that really stinks. They showed what I believe was season one here on BBC America last year and I really got into it. Yep, it's been cancelled unfortunately (although I'm not sure how exactly they'd have picked up the story given the way it ended): ITV axes 'Afterlife' after two seriesI didn't realise the US hadn't seen season two yet. I probably should have spoilered the parts of the interview that referred to it, sorry about that.

Nah, don't worry about the spoiler thing. I'm well aware that we're "behind" here on this side of the pond so that's the risk I take when I start nosing around non-US websites. They may well have shown season 2 here and I wasn't aware of it, but there was a link earlier in the thread to a site that showed episode guides, and the summary for the last episode of season one reads like the last episode BBCA showed here, at least that I know of. Part of the problem with BBCA is that they don't do much to promote a lot of their shows, except on their own channel. I never would've found out about Hex or Afterlife if I wasn't already a BBCA viewer. We didn't watch BBCA regularly at my house, but every so often they put stuff on like The Young Ones or AbFab and we'll watch that...I found out about Life On Mars through an ad while watching one of those shows, and ads during that led me to find out about Hex and Afterlife. I ask other people if they've seen any of these shows and they have NO idea what I'm talking about, because there's really nothing calling anyone's attention to those shows over here. It's like BBCA is in its own static little bubble. It's a shame, too, because these shows could do very well over here. People will ask me about them when I bring them up, so I usually end up comparing them to a similar U.S. show but add "only cooler!"

I am an avid watcher, but most people dont even know it exists. I have this awful habit. When BBCA starts running a new series I go and look for the UK website and read the episode recaps. I know I am weird. I still watch the shows though.

According to the Mail Online, Anna Wilson-Jones is going to be in the next series of Hotel Babylon, playing the new general manager, Juliet. Former EastEnders star Nigel Harman, who famously played Dirty Den's son Dennis, is making a return to prime time - taking over from Max Beesley in Hotel Babylon.
Harman will play charismatic businessman Sam Franklin who checks into the venue, only to discover his ex-wife Juliet, played by Anna Wilson-Jones, has been appointed its new general manager.
The pair discover Hotel Babylon is about to be sold, so Sam steps in to buy it.
Filming starts on the fourth series later this year and will air on BBC1 in 2009.

Thanks for the info, orokiah. Have to confess that I've never watched Hotel Babylon. I saw the trailers when the first series was broadcast and it looked like a perplexing and jarring attempt by the BBC to go downmarket - a show intended to blatantly grab the same audience as ITV's Footballer Wives and even Sky's Mile High. Nothing I've since heard or read about Hotel Babylon has made me change that view.
That said, it's clearly a popular and high profile series, and getting an important/key role that's central to the show's revamp is a bit of a coup for Anna. It certainly won't do her career any harm.

Anna Wilson-Jones can be seen on BBC1 next Monday (01/09/08) in the terrestrial premiere of the spoof movie Gladiatress, directed by Hex's Brian Grant. Gladiatress was conceived as a movie vehicle for the Smack the Pony team of Doon Mackichan, Sally Phillips and Fiona Allen, but despite being filmed when the comedy trio were at the height of their popularity, a planned cinema release never happened and instead it quietly crept straight onto DVD a few years ago, with a noticeable lack of publicity... which doesn't bode well regarding it's quality. I haven't seen it myself, so I can't comment, but as I was a big fan of Smack the Pony I'm willing to give it a chance.

Watched Gladiatress last night. Oh dear. While I can understand the Smack the Pony girls wanting to break into movies, why they signed up for this lame rushed-into-production spoof is anyone's guess (Perhaps there were no better offers. If so, that's a depressing indictment of the state of the British film industry). The cast do the best they can with what material they're given, but the film is hampered by a not-much-bigger-than-television budget, and ultimately the script just isn't very funny, often falling back on the comedic dead-end that is toilet humour. When one key scene has several characters taking turns to break wind and trying to outdo each other, you know the film's in serious trouble.

ITV3 are embarking on a repeat run of the former BBC1 Sunday evening favourite Monarch of the Glen, starting with the very first episode on Wednesday 07/01/09 at 20:00. I mention it here because Anna Wilson-Jones was a semi-regular cast member in the show's first season.

The seven-episode series NY-LON, in which Anna plays one of the main characters, is being repeated by Channel 4 on Mondays, starting tomorrow night (27/04/09) at 00:55 - which strictly speaking is actually Tuesday morning, but never mind.
