Probably just coincidental...I like Ella a lot more than the names mentioned...Ella Dee is a lovely name, the two names go together so well.

I did a little digging around. It's an English version of the name Stefan Batory, apparently King of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from 1576-1586. He was also known as István Báthory.

Well it'd interest me because I'm a history teacher and that period of history is one of my favourite, the time of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation.

I am completely passionate about history, especially if it's places/periods of history I didn't know about already.

As it so happens ive come across John Dee in a lot of my pass times...His freind and associate edward kelly said to have discovered the the language whereby he could talk with angles. he called this the enochan language. John dee very interested n the occult (and said to be in an homosexual relationship with kelly. which explains why he believed kellys idea) used this language to perfoemm his many 'conferences' with angels. Learning many secreats of the universe. He was a strong beliver in judeo-christian magic. i wont continue cos pertty much everythin about his life has been said but if you have any queries i'd be glad to help. in relation to he, the use of john dee is rather creative and very clever. As an associate of angels it may be possible he may have held the true knowledge of fallen angle's (if they really existed) and given the responsiblltiy from the angels to prevent them from ever being released. however it is unlikeley that he ever had children or was sent out to rid the world of demonically bron offspring..however he did help queen elizabeth fight the spanish armerda...

Her fathers name john dee has to do with the symbol on the stone at the end! Oh you are a clever little one janine...connections, not a lot of people do that nowadays. your right it has everything to do with enochian A posted on the rock at the end of season2. The A represents ellas power. which comes from the trafficking with angels in order to protect the wrld from angels....

In regards to John Dee not having a daughter named Ella in real life, I came across this while reading about him today: During a spiritual conference in Bohemia, in 1587, Kelley told Dee that the angel Uriel had ordered that the two men should share their wives. Kelley, who by that time was becoming a prominent alchemist and was much more sought-after than Dee, may have wished to use this as a way to end the spiritual conferences.[17] The order caused Dee great anguish, but he did not doubt its genuineness and apparently allowed it to go forward, but broke off the conferences immediately afterwards and did not see Kelley again. Dee returned to England in 1589.[17][18]From en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_deeIf John Dee and this Kelley guy were "sharing their wives," then Ella may not have necessarily been a product of union with his own wife. Kelley's wife could've been the mother, right? Of course, someone here may have researched Kelley and could shoot a hole right through that theory, if they knew that his wife had no daughter named Ella, either. Also, could Ella be a middle name of one of the "real" children?

After having a very long look round, I came across this .... With regards to an Ella, the closest reference is Dee's eldest Arthur's wife Isabella (daughter of Edmund Prestwich, Justice of the Peace) and Isabel (8th child of Arthur & Isabella born 1614). There is very little written about Edward Kelly's wife Joanna, except that the only two children she bore had died very early.

Wow, that's a great link, cc! I didn't get a chance to read much of it as I have to get ready for work soon, but it certainly seems more detailed than the Wikipedia article I found.
What I want to see, too, is if it says much about John Dee's first wife. The Wikipedia article says the details of that marriage are sketchy, so I was also wondering if Ella might've been a product of that marriage and it's a little-known fact.
I realize that most likely Ella is just made up, but still, the fanfic writer in me tries to canonize everything somehow, lol.

The only children he had were with Mary ....
I only browsed through the text as it is very long, so I skipped over a fair bit. I dont know if his diaries are online anywhere, they apparently dont reveal much about his private life. ....
