Just what is it about Tara's character you dislike so much? We're itching to know!

Okay... - First things first. It's obvious that Amber Benson is completely mis-cast. She cannot play a shy person to save her life. The way she stutters is completely embarrassing, and especially in Doublemeat Palace in which she reacts to what she thinks is Spike's chip is malfunctioning.
- She looked stoned. She was a cannibis smoker I swear.
- What the bloody deal was with the whole stupid 'demon' thing? C'mon, the episode Family was written by Joss, and it so clear that he'd gotten himself in a mess that he wanted to get out of and never mention it again. So her family was trying to control her by saying she was a demon? And they let her into college? Oh come on. This was desperation to stop a show that usually took risks in changing their characters (Angelus anyone?) and stopping all the Willow/Tara shippers from getting all moody.
- Okay...the amount of people that think Tough Love was the one of the best episodes of Buffy are obviously blinded by the fact that it's a weaker version of Season Two's Passion. The episodes start with both Big Bads closing in on Buffy, with Angelus going in Buffy's room, and Glory knowing Buffy has the key. Then there's the completely forced and unbelievable attempt at making a fight between two characters that have been built up strongly (Willow and Tara). THEN there's the attack on the lover of someone (Tara/Jenny)...but Glory, the halfwit just leaves Tara there. Why not just kill her. Hell, it crushed Giles. THEN the lover goes on a rampage - and it's up to Buffy to save them. It also beggars belief that the young and immature Buffy who's less gullible realises that the lover would want revenge. But three years later, the more mature Buffy is too dumb to realise that she has to go and save her friend. It's just lacking any credibility at all. Why can't Tara fans see this? Oh wait...
- Can anyone else see the Entropy ending being rushed and out of 'character', even for Tara?
- Now, Daniel Jackson fans were bad enough, but having people boycotting the show because Tara was killed off? *rollseyes* If they killed off Xander, I'd be mortified - but I'd still watch. It's not like Tara was going to be like Jesse. Never referenced again. He death was needed for the story. Seeing Red wroter Stephen S. DeKnight even mentioned that they'd kill off Oz to get the Willow dark arc. It was necessary, and the effects of Tara's death strengthened Willow's character in the following season. (It's funny that when the Tara fans I've debated with say that Willow didn't grow, I ask how they knew if they boycotted the show.)
- And finally, the only time that Tara was any good was when she was out of character and making fun of Spike in Older and Far Away.
There. *breathes*

Blimey, lol. In Tara's defence here were some other uber annoying characters that should have died: - Dawn (could they have tried to kill her any slower, even Glory could have done that ten times quicker... Oh wait, for the STORY, Buffy had to die) - Kennedy (everyone needed to get laid at the end at since the only other lesbian in the show was dead, they had to bring in a new interest for willow) - Dawn - Dawn - Dawn - Dawn ;D;D;D;D;D;D Sorry, lol. Dawn kind of become useless at the start of series 5

First of all you can't write Amber Benson off and say she's a bad actress just because you hate Tara soo much-have you seen her in anything else??
Dawn was a major pain in the arse!!!!
Kennedy? OMG I wanted to slap her sooo much, she had SUCH an attitude problem and really did anyone think her relationship with Willow was believable at all?

Although the character of Tara may not have been liked by all, Amber Benson is a good actress. The Willow/Kennedy thing was SO put there for storyline purposes only. At least Tara/Willow was somewhat believable (if a bit twee). Dawn. Grr.

Chance.
Bye Bye Love.
Cold Case. Playing a stoned hippy.
All bland performaces. No wonder her scenes in Can't Hardly Wait were cut. (In which she played 'Stoned Girl' and all she did was star at a banana).
The problem is the immediate reaction to the character I had was because it was badly acted. I've alywas thought that she was miscast, and if a better actress was chosen, then she'd probably had gotten a better reception.
I also had a problem with Dawn, but in places she was well acted. It was just those scenes when she had to whine. 'Am I reeeeeeeeeeal? Am I eeeeeeeen-eee-thing?' That irritated me.
But in season seven she was a good character and I liked her.

Yeah granted in series 7 Dawn was older and less annoying. Less of the "I'm so sorry for myself cos I'm not a Slayer and I have no friends and no life and I'm just a big fat ball of energyyyyyy" and so on. I think that's why I didn't like Dawn. She was too whiny. Even Buffy started to get on my nerves by series six. Too feeling sorry for herself all the time. Xander - love him no problemo sirrr. Spike - again, no probs Anya - Fantastic She brought alot of well-needed humour into the show. And her bunny phobia was just classic. Willow - Awww, I love Willow The Troika Nerds - I love these guys! But BAD Andrew, killing Jonathan!

okay I can see your point Matthew, but I'm a Tara fan and I didn't start boycotting the show after she died, in fact I too thought it was necessary.
I still don't agree with you that Amber is a bad actress though, but I suppose that's just a matter of oppinion and you can't really force that on other people.
I think that Tara wasn't well used in the show. They created the character and then didn't really know what to do with her, but as I said before, I don't think that at the time the show could have sustained a charcter like Thelma.
I found Tara's scenes with Willow very touching but then perhaps we have very different perspectives given both our sexes and sexualities.
There are some hardcore screaming Amber fans out there who wont hear a bad word said, but then I also know some people who are bit time fans but who are able to view things Amber does critically. I think you're generalising people a bit too much.

I echo that...Family was an opportunity to create a background/a history for Tara, or give her a new perspective/direction so-to-speak instead they create this demon storyline...which wasn't bad but kind of lacking. And we never hear of Tara's family after that (i know she disowns them when buffy classes her as family but still...) However I am still on the Amber's a good actress bandwagon
