Okay, I'm not asking who your favourite bands are - we can tell that by the "What are You Listening To?" thread. I'm just curious what styles of music interest or inspire people here. I'll start with mine to get the ball rolling: (In no particular order) - Punk - Old Country - Blues - Modern Country - Folk - Traditional (things like Greensleeves, etc) - Garage Rock - Classical - Opera - Light Metal - Classic Metal (Bon Jovi-esque) Anyone else?

Rap, Hip Hop, R&B all give me nightmares, lol. I mean, it's NOT Rhythm and Blues, not truly. It's just "look a my arse" music.
I also hate anything electronic; dance, rave, garage, etc. It's not music, it's a computer literate concoction. Not even talent, really.

All that techno crap that sounds like it should be a mobile ringtone rather than a chart cd! If (JimJamz) when you say goth you mean the bands that scream over loud music then I'm not really into that either. I like a lot of music classed as 'goth' but I like to be able to understand what they are singing..

Lacuna Coil are a good goth band that sing, so are My Ruin and Nightwish, but these "death metal" goth bands don't even have rhythm really. It's all just "let's see how many drum/guitar x 200 and bass solo's we can fit into a twelve minute track" I mean come on... do you REALLY need a six string bass? Really? I thought not.

Of course, of course! I love acoustic music, whatever the style. I just think that a singer, an acoustic guitar and a tambourine is the rawest, purest form of music you can get. It's totally honest.

We must believe in luck. For how else can we explain the success of those we don't like.

On the whole I'd agree as long as it isn't a cheesy kind of stunt....like at a gig or on TV when a slowed down yodeling version of a band/artists hit song is passed of as being something innovative.

I like anything.
Apart from really cheesy pop and really insane blokes losings their voices while people mess with guitars making noise behind them...

Oh agreed, agreed! I mean original songs. There's something very personal about watching a gig where it's just a man a mic and an acoustic guitar. Last time I went on holiday to Cornwall there was a bloke playing in a small bar and it was the best night of the weekend!
