I just bought a Buffy set from Ebay, and it turns out the DVDs are TV copies, and there are some episodes missing. I dont know what i expected from a seller selling all 7 series for like £40 but I supposed they'd be chinese imports or something like that. I'd really like my money back on this item. The seller already knows I'm not happy but I'm not sure how to take it further. Should I threaten to tell Ebay? Will they actually DO anything about it, I've heard theyre crap when it comes to listing violations, but I dont know what its like when a seller actually breaks the law. Can anyone help with this?

Did it state on the description that they were copies??
Because if it did then chances are you can't do much but if it doesn't say so anywhere or if it claims they're original dvd's then you can complain.
Have you emailed the seller explaining the problem? What have they said?

I've not dealt with Ebay myself, but I know that on JK Rowling's website has warnings about Ebay plastered all over it; apparently JKR's spotted forged autographs on there and told the management and they've basically told her it's a "Caveat Emptor" situation.
Doesn't sound to hopeful does it?

It doesnt mention that they are copies, no...however I thought it wouldnt matter as its illegal to sell copies.
I emailed the seller saying that the DVDs were fakes and told them it was illegal, and also that the series wasnt complete as there was a couple of episodes missing. Basically they just replied in a really rude way.
Pardon my idiocy, but whats "caveat emptor"?

The slight advantage you have here is that they are illegal copies being sold over the net. Report them to Ebay and Paypal and have their account shut down, demanding a refund!

Excellent...cheers!
Edit: Ha...standing up for yourself rocks. Not when your seller has the intellect of a four year old. Oh well, here's hoping.

Post a link to the purchase so we can all see what you saw. Sometimes you miss the smallest things [we've all done it].
I see many, many people selling copied series on Ebay, I'm pretty sure they don't get shut down. Really, I think the only way you will recieve a refund on the item is with the co-operation of the original seller, who, made about £30 of off your purchase, so, unless the seller has a heart, your probabaly screwed. Just explain that you misinterpreted the description, and that you are sorry for any time wasting you may have caused [although, it sounds like you've past that now]
But, you could always get the missing episodes form 'elsewhere' if all fails.

I've rechecked it five or six times and it says nowhere that they are copies. Yes people DO sell fakes on Ebay all the time, but the reason there account isnt deleted is because Ebay dont know about it. If people report that the DVDs are fake they have to at least kick the seller off because its illegal. Also, if you pay via paypal you're protected from such things. I've filed a complaint with them, we'll see what happens. I also have the guys details and may well shop him to FACT.

You've got it on your side then. Hurry up and contact them before they delete the page. Print it off, save it, e-mail it to yourself... something! Proof is EVERYTHING in situations like this!

Good idea, I'm saving a copy of it as we speak. I dont want to contact FACT before the paypal dispute closes though, no doubt it will make the guy less likely to refund me. I havent contacted Ebay about it so hopefully they wont delete the page, and FACT has a special page for reporting copyright violations, and I got his details from Ebay so I should be sorted. I'm pretty sure Ebay would have to comply in a case like this anyhow.
