So my lovely people, a while back we were having a bit of a collective thought about having a mini get together in the summer. Not a convention or anything like that but just a bunch of us in the same place at the same time getting to catch up and most possibly maybe likely getting a bit drunk.
What do people think about maybe doing something in August? Plenty of time to work out the kinks in any plans and for people to scrape some money together?
I thought maybe if we start with a vague date then we can work up to a venue.

It'd be good (and money saving) if, rather than planning an "event" we just all meet up halfway in a pub somewhere and have a night of it, but with all the young forum goers, it may be impossible!

Exactly what I meant. Like I said before, at similar things I've done like this with other people the best bet is to find a cheap but nice hotel and use that as a base then go to a good pub nearby because wherever we go, some people are going to have to travel some distance and need somewhere to stay. Generally that kind of thing has worked quite well and it means peeps who do have to stay the night in the hotel don't have to pay out a bomb. It does need a little bit of planning though because a) I'm a control freak b) nothing happens otherwise and c) somepeople WILL have a fair distance to travel depending on where we hold it. That doesn't mean it becomes an "event" it just means it's a well organised piss up.  |

This sounds like a fine idea, but like most people here, I wouldn't be able to commit until we had an idea about the possible date and location.
Typical 'chicken and egg' situation.

yep yep. Well like I said, August works best for me because I have no committments at all as yet and I'm not at work. What I'll do is put up a poll for weekends in August and then we'll just go with majority vote I think.
