suggestions for a location would be useful then we can vote on it. I'm thinking cities or places that have good rail links...

well northampton has a good rail link and theres a dead cheap hotel in the centre and is only bout 2 min walkin distance to a pub and 10mins to a great pub (and after the pub theres a great club for rock lovers bout 15min walk away), but same said for leics and london, but londons probably halfway for most people, plus you need somewhere at least a few people know becauseif only one person knows the rest of us might get lost tring to find our way back to the hotel!! (especially if that persons passin out or walking wonky!!)

I'm familiar with Northampton. It's only an hour by train from London (even less by fastlink) and while it's a fair-sized town, the town centre itself is so small - and right next to the train station - that it'd probably be impossible to get lost.
Sounds like a viable option.

yeah sounds about right, think total journey is from half hour to an hour dependin on if its direct train or not! the train station is literally a 10 min walk from the centre and theres several hotels in the centre, from really cheap ones (100 pound a week!! and im being serious) to ones like the ibis (bout 45 i think per night), and those 2 hotels are only 30 seconds from each other, theres several pubs near them but the best pub is the penny whistle which is about 10-15 walk tops (depends on walkin speed) and then for those that want to carry on the fun theres several clubs in the centre (like time and envy if u like dance and hip hop, but they have dress codes) or if u want a rock club its bout a 5-10 min walk from the penny! its called the soundhaus and it has a metal/rocl room and an 80's cheese room (and sometimes the downstairs room is open and they play anything from industrial to brit-pop depending on the night of the month)
