*squeeeees*
I'm loving it! It's just what I need to distract me on a Sunday evening, and Rochester and Jane just sizzel on screen. The tension is lush! I love it!
Christina really does portray the bitchy characters well, although a little boring to see her play it over and over, at least she's giving an edge to Blanche. I sort of sense she just wants to be loved under the spoiltness, pretty frilly dresses and abudance of blonde curls.
So...anyone else watching it? C'mon! I need someone to talk about it with! *claps excitedly* ;D

The chemistry between Jane and Rochester is awesome and you really felt for her throughout the episode. I think the actress who plays Jane has such an interesting, intense face as well. Christina was great and looked stunning.
Personally I haven't read the book. I started it many moons ago so it's quite exciting waiting to see what's going to happen next.

I studied Jane Eyre at uni, so I was expecting to be hyper-critical about the liberties they'd take with the text (I always am with classic novels, bit of a purist), but I think they've done a really good job. I loved the gypsy scene for instance; in the book it's Mr Rochester who dresses up as the gypsy but it works so much better on modern TV for him to hire someone. I was really glad they left it in as it's a really important scene: showing him playing his little mind games without distracting the audience with the fact this sizzling, brooding romantic lead is dressed up as a woman. I sort of sense she just wants to be loved under the spoiltness, pretty frilly dresses and abudance of blonde curls. Totally agree - I thought Christina was great. She gave Blanche some depth, which is no mean feat considering how one dimensionally bitchy her character could be in the wrong hands.

I'm really pleased by her portrayal because it could have ended up that way, and she really does give her that extra something that makes me feel a slight sympathy for Blanche, which is something that rarely happens when it comes to that character for me. Oh lordy me YES! It was! I was sitting in bed watching it and my toes curled and I was grinning manically! I love it because compared to previous adaptations Rochester isn't so rigid and Jane isn't so serious. They both have a lot more depth which is refreshing! Sunday evenings can't come soon enough!

I hate that it takes forever to get your shows over here!!! Still sort of forever away, but apparently it's on a channel called PBS in January 2007, if that's one you can get? Looks like it's not out on DVD over here until February, unfortunately. I thought they might have put it out in time for the Christmas market but nope: To view it click here. On a related note, I just noticed the Jean Rhys prequel to JE, Wide Sargasso Sea, is on BBC4 on Monday night. Matt EDIT: Link stretched the screen.

ooooh! Me either. Me and my Mum were having a bit of a girly squeel about it earlier. Ordinarily I'm a big old cynic when it comes to romance but there's just something about costume drama's that melts the cynacism a bit!

Exactly! Oh my tonight's episode was grand! If only I couple find them online so I could make music videos out of them! Torrents no longer work for me and I can't get it off the dvds when I have them... I'm in love with this version of Jane Eyre, tis definatly one of the best that I've come across in a while! I'm putting it up there with the Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle Pride and Prejudice, which I absolutely adore! I can't believe next week is the last one! It's over too quickly

Oh my tonight's episode was grand! Oh yes, it was fab; the best yet I thought. I loved the part where he took her shopping! And her determination to choose the simple veil, and then the way she was looking at herself in the mirror saying 'Jane Eyre will NOT be overwhelmed' - I adore the way Ruth Wilson is playing her. I've seen lots of adaptations but I really think she's one of the best Janes yet - maybe the best. *gets carried away on wave of JE excitement* ETA: Whoops. Thanks for the edit Matt.

She's definatly one of, if not THE best Jane Eyre I've ever seen. She gave her such depth and the carriage scene was adorable! And when they were all cuddled up on the sofa thing and the way he was holding her *huge eyes* *squeeees* ;D

Oh I loved the shopping scene and her heartbreak at the end was perfect too. No over the top crying or flouncing, just so contained and soul destroying. Ruth Wilson is excellent.
