There might be another thread for this on here, but I'm not sure so I'll write here anyway. Blood Ties is this new show from Canada based on the Tanya Huff novels. It's very good, great acting and great storytelling, add to that an attractive cast and you have all the ingrediants for a first class show.

It's about a former police detective (VICKI) who is gradually loosing her sight. Anyway she becomes a private investigator and ends up getting caught up in the supernatural after she meets Henry Fitzroy a 400 year old vampire and son of Henry VIII.

Azazeal Lover posted the following about Blood Ties on the What Else is Everybody Watching? thread on 08/04/07;
I'm not familar with this show or the original novels, but it sounds vaguely similar to Forever Knight, a wonderful but little-known Canadian series about a vampire detective, which ran for three seasons in the early Nineties. Sky One used to screen it late on Sunday nights. It was a low budget show, but it boasted some good writing, a moody atmosphere, and a great cast who clearly both believed in the series and enjoyed working on it. It's a forgotten gem.

cool will it air in the uk if it is wat channel Living have picked it up over here and it's due to start 'in the summer', whatever that means. I've never read the novels either but the 'vampire son of Henry VIII' idea is barkingly mad enough to keep me looking out for it. Do they do anything with that idea story-wise or is it just a throwaway way of giving the character an intriguing background?

Well there on a break at the moment but when they come back there's supposed to be an episode about how Henry became a vampire (he met a beautiful woman and fell in love with her then she turned out to be a vampire) anyway this all happened in the court of Henry VIII. So hopefully they will show it in detail.

I thoroughly enjoyed blood ties. Kyle Schmidt who plays Henry the vampire is wonderful! The other acting I found a bit B Movieish at first but it got better and the show was kinda tongue in cheek at times anyway . So it was ok. I was really excited to hear that lifetime had picked it up for the fall. I have heard some fans of the novels werent thrilled, but that oftens does happen. THe Writer is happy with series though.
ON a different note, I am watching The Tudors also and they have a story line about the birth of Henry Fitzroy. HOwever in their version Henry dies as a small child. Blood Ties is actually far more historically correct with their story of him.

Living are describing it as having 'hugely compelling paranormal storylines (and a) sexy young cast'... makes me wonder whether a long-term replacement for umpteen repeats of Charmed is figuring in their plans for this show. It'll be interesting to see whereabouts they schedule it.

Yeah he is and he's only 22 years old in real life.

Have been looking up information about Blood Ties and it's cast on the IMDB. Here's some trivia; Christina Cox, who plays Vicki Nelson, previously filled one of the title roles in Nikki & Nora, an American TV series about a pair of openly gay female detectives who were partners both during and outside work. However, while shows such as The L Word have been highly popular for subscription cable channels like Showtime, Nikki & Nora was being developed for UPN, one of the freely-available nationwide networks. Sadly but predictably, UPN decided that mainstream U.S. audiences just weren't ready for the concept of lesbian lead characters, and Nikki & Nora never got further than an unaired pilot episode filmed in 2004 (it's available to watch on YouTube). Despite this, I've found some fanfic for the show; community.livejournal.com/ashscribbs/51386.html#cutid1The IMDB also states that Francoise Yip, one of my favourite action movie actresses, guest-stars in several episodes of Blood Ties. Intriguing. I'm not familar with this show or the original novels, but it sounds vaguely similar to Forever Knight, a wonderful but little-known Canadian series about a vampire detective, which ran for three seasons in the early Nineties. And in an strange coincidence, it turns out that Christina Cox played a recurring character in three episodes of Forever Knight.
