Turns out it's a good week for Katrine fans - her episode of Heartbeat, 'Music of the Spheres', is being shown this Friday (24/07/09) at 4pm on ITV1. Great work by Katrine in last night's Casualty. I'm so used to seeing her play confident, powerful characters that it was actually surprising to see her portraying someone so vulnerable, scared and, well... human. She absolutely aced it. Agreed, she was great. Sad and sweet and very touching. And it really did seem strange to see her playing someone so normal - not to mention in a hospital setting minus a nurse's uniform. Shame we don't see her on TV more often.

Katrine de Candole is guest starring in episode two of the new series of Outnumbered, playing a character called Valentina. Thanks for the info, orokiah. Television appearances by the delectable Ms de Candole are unfortunately rare, so I'll make sure that I watch Outnumbered next week. Outnumbered has been a runaway success, hoovering up awards and critical acclaim, and proving highly popular with audiences. It's one of the few (non-reality) TV shows that you still hear people talking about at work the next day. And it's central premise is simple yet brilliant - allow three child actors to improvise and watch them produce reams of hilarious dialogue that is totally logical to their young minds, but which an adult scriptwriter would never come up with. Yet although I enjoyed Outnumbered's first series, I confess that I stopped watching about two episodes into the second season. The reason is very simple: I can't stand kids. I find them intensely annoying. Now at this point you could counter that I'm being hypocritical, as I was a child myself once. Quite true, but even when I was a little kid, I couldn't stand most other kids. Yes, I found them annoying back then too (I was very mature and sensible for my age - in fact, probably more so than I am now. I seem to be living my life in reverse). As a result, while I found the antics of the children in Outnumbered very funny the first time round, when the second series rolled out, the joke had worn thin and I didn't find them amusing anymore - just extremely annoying. Does this make me a bad person? I don't think so. Just brutally honest.

The character of Amber was actually talked about at length in yesterday's (13/07/10) episode. She was the long-term girlfriend of Nikhil (co-owner of the sweet-packing factory that is Emmerdale's main employer), starting from when they were both pre-teenagers. They went out together for six years, got engaged, and agreed not to sleep together until their wedding night. Then Nikhil discovered her in bed with another man, and was left so emotionally devastated by her betrayal that all his subsequent relationships (including his recent dalliance with barmaid/posh totty Maisie) have floundered and fizzled out, because he can't bring himself to be physically intimate with a woman.
Yesterday Nikhil confessed the above to his brother Jai. My guess is that Amber's appearance next week will be due to her being contacted by Jai, who hopes that seeing her again will help Nikhil take the first step in overcoming his problem.

Not seen the episode yet - I normally wait for the weekend omnibus. Incidentally, looking at the DS episode guide, Amber is mentioned in two episodes - Monday and Tuesday - not just one. Hmm. Hopefully anyone who watches it first run next week can confirm which one(s) she actually appears in. There's also a rather fetching picture of Katrine in character here.

Katrine did indeed appear in both Monday and Tuesday's episodes of Emmerdale, and it must be said that she looked absolutely stunning. She also had a great dialogue exchange with Jai in Monday's instalment;
Amber: "So, where's Nikhil?" Jai: "He's not here. He's gone away." Amber: "I don't believe you. If he wasn't here, you wouldn't be trying so hard to get rid of me." Jai: "Very clever. What are you, some kind of lawyer?" Amber: "Yes I am, actually."

Fully agree, she was - and looked - great (and also managed to cue a heated debate on DS about whether she's French or South African, based on her accent and surname). Hope we'll see more of her on our screens soon.

Was watching a report on Five News today (23/08/10) about how the producers of The X Factor have started using Auto Tune to modify the contestants' singing. To illustrate what Auto Tune does, a brief clip from the video for Cher's 'Believe' was shown. ' Wait a minute' I thought, as I spotted a familiar face in a crowd scene, ' that's Katrine de Candole!' Found the video on YouTube, and yep - it's a young Katrine, back in 1998, seven years before she played Perie in Hex. She has quite a substantial part in the vid. Hello WarrenWitchesRule, and thanks for highlighting a TV appearance by Katrine that had slipped past us. Holliday Grainger also featured in Any Human Heart, so that first episode could count as a minor Demons reunion.
