Here's a list (partly tongue-in-cheek, mostly serious) of what I would like to see in Season Four; 5.) Absolutely no mention of Rose (I never liked her. Can someone please explain why that sulky, stroppy, and selfish little chav was so hugely popular with the majority of New Who's audience? If it was because most of the younger viewers identified with her, then God help us all). 7.) A new companion who isn't a romantic interest for the Doctor, and who doesn't hold a torch for him (in total agreement with DreamDangerously about this). Absolutely agree with both of these. No more references to Rose and definitely no more companions who are secretly/not so secretly in lurve with the Doc. One thing I definitely don't want to see is a re-imagining of 'School Reunion' when Martha returns, itching for a smackdown and waving a scalpel at her replacement. I am sorta bummed that I know that now, but I am a total sucker for spoliers. Me too...I'm already on the lookout for spoilers on the new Bionic Woman, and it hasn't even started in the US yet, let alone over here! I suppose I should know better really. Part of what made Doctor Who so enjoyable this series was the fact that most of the time, tabloid and forum rumours aside, I had no idea what was coming next. Did you D/L Christina Cole's episode Tina or are you still waiting to see it?

I'm sorry to interrupt your conversation about this show but I was wondering if someone could explain to me what it is about. I have heard of it but I have never seen it. I have read some of the post here and I think it sounds interesting. They are playing episodes on BBC America but they start with episode 4 and I think I will be lost because I have not seen episodes 1-3. I can watch episodes 1-3 now! Thanks!

I have read some of the post here and I think it sounds interesting. Don't apologise, the more discussion the better! Someone else might be able to explain it in better detail, but simply put it's about an alien called The Doctor who travels through space and time in a craft called the TARDIS (which is stuck looking like an old British police box), usually with one or more companions in tow. Companions tend to be female and human but there are lots of exceptions to that in the show's history. You might want to take a look at the show's Wiki entry for some background - but be warned there's an awful lot of it!: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_who

Just curious - is Kylie Minogue at all famous in the US? She had one or two hits a few years ago but nothing really big since.

It was a fun day on the internet yesterday. The BBC officially announced that Tate would be the new companion in all thirteen episodes of Season Four, and all the Who-related forums immediately went into total meltdown. The vast majority of Who fans are VERY UNHAPPY about this - the amount of Tate Hate is practically unbelievable. People are already declaring that Season Four will be total rubbish, that they will refuse to watch the show, and are trying to persuade others to boycott it. The most bizarre theory currently spreading on-line is linked to the rumour that Russell T. Davies is leaving New Who after Season Four. The theory is that he's deliberately trying to sabotage the show, so that it will be forced to end when he leaves (!). Ridiculous. Has it never occurred to these people that Davies will still want to have a career after Who? Having a hugely popular series shed large amounts of viewers while he's still in charge won't exactly look good on his CV, will it? Personally I think the casting of Tate is great news. I really liked Donna when she appeared in 'The Runaway Bride', and hoped that we would see her again. She was a more engaging and interesting character in those 60 minutes that Rose managed to be in two whole seasons. She's exactly the kind of straight-talking, no-nonsense woman who will stop the Doctor moping about being the last of his race, and she'll curb his childish excesses as well. And she's seen him at this worst, so she won't be in awe of him like Rose and Martha were (can't imagine Donna ever following the Doctor around like a lovesick puppy, like those two did). Her famous line to the Doctor at the conclusion of 'The Runaway Bride' - "I think you need someone to stop you" - was one of the highlights of New Who so far, and proved that she understood him better than Rose and Martha ever did. If the Tate Haters really do intend not to watch Season Four, I suspect it will be their loss. They might be missing one of the most intriguing partnerships that the Tardis has seen. History shows that the Doctor (as a character) works best with companions that challenge him.

I couldn't agree with you more Fenris...I think the Doctor needs someone like Donna to challenge him and not to think that every decision he ever makes is correct and good and awesome. I'll be really interested to see her interact with Martha as well - I'm sure she'll put her straight while she's at it as well.
I think Catherine Tate is a very capable actress, as she proved at christmas and also Donna can be taken on a pretty brilliant character journey as well...there's room for development with her.

It is interesting. I had never heard of Catherine tate before seeing her in The Runaway Bride and I relaly enjoyed her and the episode. Why do so many people dislike her?? On a non-doctor who related board I belong to the people are pretty much up in arms also. I figure I come with a totally unbais opinion of her.

well she's a pretty famous comedienne over here and her show was really popular but then it kind of became over-played, over quoted and over done and her face was everywhere.
I think she's really talented but some people can't stand her.

The BBC officially announced that Tate would be the new companion in all thirteen episodes of Season Four, and all the Who-related forums immediately went into total meltdown. I couldn't believe the hysterical reaction to the Catherine Tate casting. Anyone would think she'd been cast as the first female Doctor instead of simply being the latest in a long line of companions. A more mature companion who doesn't see the Doctor through rose (or Martha) tinted spectacles is a good thing in my book whoever they happen to be played by. I can't say I'm a particularly big fan of Catherine Tate, but I'm looking forward to seeing how they develop Donna's character now they have thirteen episodes in which to do it.
