With reference books on Doctor Who I noticed that when it comes to Torchwood it only presents information about Torchwood that got presented within Doctor Who and did not delve into what was going on in the Torchwood series itself. One particular reason for this is that Torchwood was aimed for an adult audience in contrast to a family audience for Doctor Who. However the Doctor Who Visual Dictionary tweak things a little when it came to information about Captain Jack. It says that Captain Jack Harkness was not his real name as it was someone else's name. This information was not presented in Doctor Who but in the Torchwood episode that bore Captain Jack Harkness' name.

Consequences
The Wrong Hands:
Third story.
Written by Andrew Cartmel .
Cartmel was the last script editor of "classic" Doctor Who.
In fact perhaps showing that he is not far from his Doctor Who memories, The Wrong Hands has Jack thinking Gwen was talking about the Doctor when she actually meant a GP.
Cartmel provides an enjoyable tale that involves an alien weapon, a baby seeking love and a teenage gang.
Gwen takes care of the said baby and The Wrong Hands being part of Consequences was released in October 2009, three months after Children of Earth where it was revealed that Gwen had become pregnant but we would not meet her daughter until Miracle Day in 2011.

Consequences
Virus: Fourth story. Written by James Moran. As well as Jack, Gwen and Ianto this story also featured Detective Swanson from They Keep Killing Suzie. The team has to deal with a virus a problem of which was ultimately solved by Ianto. Very enjoyable story in which Ianto got to shine in dealing with this virus.

The one thing I noticed about reference books on Doctor Who is that when it comes to present information on Torchwood, they only presents information about Torchwood that was shown or stated within Doctor Who itself and not on the Torchwood series itself. This is because each of the two shows have a different target audience, Doctor Who is for the family audience and Torchwood for an adult audience.
However Doctor Who: The Visual Dictionary tweak things a little with its presentation of information of Torchwood.
It stated that Torchwood had bases in London with Torchwood One, Glasgow with Torchwood Two and Cardiff with Torchwood Three. This information of the numbered Torchwood and where they are based at was not stated in Doctor Who but by Captain Jack to Gwen in the first Torchwood episode Everything Changes.
Also presented is information about Captain Jack's team at Torchwood Three included Suzie Costello. Suzie did not appear nor was ever mentioned in Doctor Who and the book states that Suzie was later replaced by Gwen.
Conspicuously it avoided mentioning the fact that Gwen replaced Suzie because Suzie had killed herself!

Consequences
Nina Rogers: Final story. This story has Nina Rogers recalling her most recent encounter with Torchwood with Jack and Ianto via a case of a very unusual book. Funny about the line about Gwen coming to Torchwood to clean dishes and what a revelation of what Gwen ultimately does here in this fascinating story that ends the Consequences anthology.

The Conspiracy: In 2015 Big Finish finally succeeded in getting the licence to produce and it begins with The Conspiracy. Written by David Llewellyn and released in September 2015. It seemed the approach Big Finish had adopted with its Torchwood releases was to feature only one principal character. Unsurprisingly given that this is the first release it of course feature none other than Captain Jack himself on his own. The Conspiracy has George Wilson played by John Sessions as he states that there is a conspiracy and it involved something called The Committee. Intriguing when Wilson revealed the truth about the Committee and quite surprising when another revelation came about afterwards. The Conspiracy is solid opening for Torchwood on Big Finish and the ending of The Conspiracy clearly states that this just the beginning for Torchwood's Big Finish adventures.

October 22 2016 marked 10 years since Torchwood made its debut. Since its debut there have been four seasons (so far) the last with Miracle Day in 2011 and John Barrowman recently had an unsuccessful attempt to bring Torchwood back on TV. Remarkably exactly ten years after its debut October 22 sees the debut of another Doctor Who spin-off Class and along with the October 22 date, Class begins in exactly the same circumstances that Torchwood had that of a double episode on BBC Three. In fact Radio Times in its review of Class said that Class is just like Torchwood. So October 22 will go down in history as the anniversaries of two Doctor Who spin-offs Torchwood & Class.

The Lives of Captain Jack: The Year After I Died: The Year After I Died is the first episode of The Lives of Captain Jack anthology from Big Finish. This episode takes place a year after Captain Jack’s first death as was shown in Doctor Who: Parting of the Ways and hence the title The Year After I Died. Very interesting story presenting what Jack was up to relatively soon after his first death and first resurrection. Sarah Douglas makes for a very good adversary as Vortia Trear, the founder of the Hope Foundation. Also very good is Shvorne Marks as Silo Crook an aspiring reporter and Jack sure found her pesky with her inquisitiveness. A solid episode and quite horrifying upon learning about assets.

There was a minor Torchwood reunion screened on British television last night (29th September 2018). In Channel 5's feature-length docudrama Albert: The Power Behind Victoria Gareth David Lloyd (Torchwood's Ianto Jones) played Prince Albert and his wife Queen Victoria was portrayed by Olivia Hallinan, who had a guest-starring role in the first season Torchwood episode 'Out of Time'.

Torchwood: The Death of Captain Jack: The Death of Captain Jack is the season 4 opener of the Torchwood Big Finish audio series. This story marked James Marsters’ return as Captain John Hart since playing him in the TV series in three episodes of season 2. Written by David Llewellyn and released in March 2018. The Death of Captain Jack begins with Hart visiting Jack incarcerated and in the near state of what it says in the story title. What ensues is the presentation of events that is a complete divergence to what was known before. The disregard to Torchwood continuity has certainly allowed Marsters to have a lot of fun in his reprisal as Captain Hart. Marsters truly got to shine a lot more than what he was given in his TV appearances. Marsters has the spotlight here with Jack having a minimal involvement here. Among the comedic aspects of this story like a joke about two Greats, Alexander the Great and Catherine the Great and the brief brushes has with Children of Earth & Miracle Day.

5.3 Aliens Among Us: Orr: Orr is the name of a shapeshifter. This episode takes place in the aftermath of Gwen’s mother Mary’s death and she and Rhys attends her funeral. This episode includes a passport having been found. Coincidentally I recently saw Elementary 6.18 The Visions of Norman P. Horowitz which also had passport being found during the course of the episode. Orr is not only a shapeshifter but also a time bomb as well and quite a climax when attempts are made to defuse this bomb.

Goodbye Piccadilly: Goodbye Piccadilly is the fourth episode of the fourth Big Finish Torchwood season. Starring Tom Price as Andy Davidson and Samuel Barnett as Norton Folgate. Written by James Goss and released in June 2018. Funny beginning with Andy seeing Norton and back in time in 1950s Soho. I have to confessed that I have not listened to this duo’s previous adventure Ghost Mission, something I hope to rectify one day, prior to listening to Goodbye Piccadilly. Goodbye Piccadilly is a fun adventure especially how different Andy and Norton are in this situation they are together in 1950s Soho, the fact that Andy from the 21st century came easily at odds with the sensibilities of the 1950s and it was also amusing how HG Wells got dropped into the conversation.
