You guys are lucky. I live in America and have to search Youtube for most of her work. I wish I lived in the UK.

Nothing new to report, as far as I'm aware.
Although other Hex veterans such as Jemima Rooper, Michael Fassbender, Christina Cole, Zoe Tapper and Amber Sainsbury have appeared in some high-profile projects since the show ended, I'm afraid that Laura hasn't been as visible. There's only been a couple of stage roles and some guest appearances in a handful of TV shows. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of her in the future.

Just to keep everyone updated - Laura has filmed two more episodes of "The Bill", as a recovering heroin addict (so more misery)! Presumably this is a new character, unless things for poor Mandy Glover have gone into a real downward spiral! Laura's also had her hair cut really short for the role, so we may not recognise her at first! Sadly I have no idea when these episodes will be transmitted, so we'd all better keep an eye out!

Great news! Thanks for letting us know, Rob, I'll definitely be looking out for that. Sounds like a challenging role for Laura to tackle, if a (yet another!) grim one.
Maybe the haircut is to help distinguish her new character from the old one..? I would like to see the perennially ill-fated Mandy Glover again though. She had a nice bond with Sally Armstrong, who's still in the show, so it could easily be picked up again - The Bill is well known for recycling good actors in different roles but a bit of continuity wouldn't hurt.

Could someone post the episodes as soon as they air. We do not get The Bill in America and I had to look hard for the episodes she was in on The Bill earlier.

The scene: the office of The Bill’s Casting Director. The show’s Producer walks in and slaps a script down on the desk. PRODUCER: “Bob, we’ve got a very difficult, challenging role to fill for an upcoming episode. It’s a female character who’s a distraught, traumatised mess. If we don’t get the right actress for the part, someone who’s totally convincing, the whole storyline will just fall apart.” CASTING DIRECTOR: “Sounds like a toughie.” PRODUCER: “Exactly. This is top priority. I don’t care how many days or weeks it takes, or how many casting calls and auditions you have to carry out, it’s essential that we get the right girl for this role.” CASTING DIRECTOR: “Leave it with me, boss. I won’t let you down.” PRODUCER: “Good man!” (Leaves) The Casting Director hits the speed-dial for Laura Pyper’s agent. CASTING DIRECTOR: “Hi Rebecca, how are the kids? Great. Listen, I’ve got a role that’ll be perfect for Laura.” AGENT: “A distraught, traumatised mess?” CASTING DIRECTOR: “You read my mind.” AGENT: "Well, to be honest Laura’s a bit concerned about getting typecast. She’s hoping to play some lighter, happier roles.” CASTING DIRECTOR: “Such as?” AGENT: “Well… like, someone whose dog has died?” CASTING DIRECTOR: “I’ll bear that in mind, but this is all I have at the moment.” AGENT: “Okay, she’ll do it. Send the script over.” CASTING DIRECTOR: “Thanks Rebecca. I’ll have it couriered straight over. Ciao.” Ending the call, he slaps his hands together. CASTING DIRECTOR: “Bish bash bosh. Job done. Now for a five hour lunch.” Maybe the haircut is to help distinguish her new character from the old one..? I would like to see the perennially ill-fated Mandy Glover again though. Thanks for the heads-up, rob. The fact that Laura has changed her appearance for the role makes me guess that it'll be a new character. Though it would be nice to see Mandy Glover again, it's been almost a year since her episodes were broadcast, and while Laura fans such as ourselves remember them, I doubt that most Bill watchers will recall her with any great detail. I can understand the show's producers not seeing any point in reviving the character.

Here's the date and description for Laura's first new episode of The Bill (contains spoilers - highlight to view): Episode 690 - Wednesday, 29 April 2009, 8:00PM - 9:00PM Returning to Sun Hill, a newly promoted and apprehensive Sergeant Diane Noble (Kaye Wragg) makes her way through the gates for her first shift. Throwing herself into the deep end, Diane and her troops head to an out of control party on the roof of a building site. The officers cut the music and as some of the teenage revellers run away from the scene, Diane notices Kieron Lawler (Sean Verey) on the edge of the roof.
Slowly making her way to Kieron, she soon realises that he has taken drugs and is behaving erratically. Diane nervously talks him into stepping away from the edge, but as Kieron takes her hand, his legs seize up and losing his balance, falls over the edge where he lies motionless on the ground below.
Later at the hospital, Diane talks to Kieron’s parents, Brendan (Kevin Doyle) and Michelle (Miranda Foster), who are horrified when Diane informs them their son had taken Ketamine before his fall.
As the investigation continues, Diane discovers that Kieron had contacted his sister Sarah (Laura Pyper), a drug addict, to ask her for ecstasy. The sergeant visits Sarah who swears she’s cleaned up her act and hasn’t taken drugs in six months. Sarah soon realises that Kieran must have been in contact with her ex-boyfriend and drug dealer, Ray Pelosi (Ben Cartwright). Desperate to help her brother and show her parents she has changed, Sarah tells Diane where they can find Ray.
A sting is arranged in a nightclub and PC Leon Taylor (Dominic Power) goes undercover. As soon as Ray takes Leon outside to sell him drugs from his car, Sun Hill officers swoop in and he is quickly arrested. Back at the station, an arrogant Ray tells the officers that neither the car nor the drugs belong to him and that they have nothing on him.
Although Diane knows he is lying, she is forced to let him go but later receives a terrified call from Sarah. Racing to her house, Diane and PC Mel Ryder (Rhea Bailey) are horrified when they find her lying silently on the floor, with a stab wound to her stomach. So is there anything new with Laura? There's speculation floating around elsewhere that Laura has been cast as Jane Fairfax in the BBC's upcoming adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma. The same source also claims Christina Cole is playing Mrs Elton. No idea if it's true or not but it would be fantastic if it's confirmed - another Hex reunion. I'm not really so keen on Christina playing yet another bitchy role but it would be great to see Laura in a major BBC production. Here's hoping!

Many thanks orokiah for the update on "The Bill" - I'll definitely watching! And intriguing rumour about Laura being cast as Jane Fairfax. One of Jane Austen's most enigmatic of her supporting characters, and so interesting that there's actually a companion 1990 novel by Joan Aiken called "Jane Fairfax" telling the whole story from her point of view. I'm sure Laura would do the role justice, and it could be just the breakhrough role that she needs. Looking forward to setting up a special "Jane Fairfax" page on the website should it come off!

Just looking at the ITV schedule, and they've moved Laura's first episode of The Bill ('Old Habits') to 8pm on Thursday 30th April instead of Wednesday 29th. So looks like we might have to wait a week for part two. And intriguing rumour about Laura being cast as Jane Fairfax. Sounds interesting. Is it any good? The only paraliterature I've read for Emma is Emma Tennant's Emma In Love. It's so awful that I wish I hadn't bothered.

It's quite a dense read, but interesting, and original in the fact that it's a parallel story rather than a sequel, and written well before the current Colin Firth Jane Austen obsession that's been going on since the 1996 production of Pride and Prejudice (that undoubtedly played a part in precipitating such cash-in travesties of Austen novels as Perfect Happiness and Emma in Love). (I've always preferred the more faithful Fay Weldon adapted 1980 BBC version of P&P myself, and the 1972 BBC version of Emma has not yet been bettered.) But back to Laura - yes, indeed, confirmation received that she is playing Jane Fairfax, and loving every minute! I think a special "Jane Fairfax" page on the website is called for in due course.

Back to Laura - yes, indeed, confirmation received that she is playing Jane Fairfax, and loving every minute! That's great news. It's the kind of high-profile role that Laura has long deserved. Hmm... Lost in Austen, then Demons, and now Emma. Clearly, Hex reunions are like buses - you wait ages, then three come along in quick succession. Speaking of Lost in Austen, when it was being broadcast last year I swiftly realised that on-line Austen devotees are as obsessive and blinkered in their opinions as the most fanatical Trekkees and Buffy fans. However, if the comments on these two Austen blogs I've found are any indicator, Laura's casting has met with approval; ribbonsoflight.blogspot.com/This blogger also remarks that Christina Cole will be a far more attractive Mrs. Elton than previous interpretations; old-fashionedcharm.blogspot.com/2009/04/lovely-lovely-lovely.htmlBoth bloggers seem unfamiliar with Laura, but I suppose that's not surprising, as judging by the tone and content of their blogs, previous Austen adaptations and other period dramas appear to be the only TV shows they watch.

Back to Laura - yes, indeed, confirmation received that she is playing Jane Fairfax, and loving every minute! Good for her, that's excellent news. Looking forward to seeing it - and of course the new section on the site! I hope we might see some press for her too when the transmission time rolls around. Interviews with her are few and far between, and almost all of them (naturally enough) are Hex-related.
