okay call me slow on the uptake, but I finally got to see the film today. I thought it was great in some places and terrible in others but on the whole it did a good job. I think it was badly edited in places though, racing through scenes or events like the World Cup and the Ball to the point where they almost barely made sense. I agree that Hermione and Dumbledore were somewhat grumpy, out of characterly so. Poor old Fleur and Viktor became almost cameos with their couple of line each! Bizzare really and a shame. We almost need an extended edition to fit in the stuff that seems to me to have been filmed, just cut out to bring the running time down and I was most miffed by the 5 second glance of Wyrd Sisters! Not good enough! Also what was the point in including Rita when they didn't really use her? However, on the whole I enjoyed it. I think best performance goes to Brendan Gleeson as Mad Eye Moody. How great was he? Loved the Weasly twins, but they look like they're in their mid twenties now...very bizzare. I liked that the film had a good sense of humour and Cedric's death was completely heartbreaking, especially his father's reaction. Oh and David Tennant is just The Man. Oh and good dragons! ooooh and I spotted the kid from my school in the Great Hall in one of the scenes, hurrah.

Aw you saw him? cool!!
I'm going to see it on Thursday *yay* but I'm not that excited really as I've heard quite mediocre reviews from my friends who've read the books. Oh well, we'll see...

oh don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it. I think you just have to kind of separate the films from the books. Yes there's a lot left out but they did what the feasably could with the material, I think the same with PoA. What's the point in whinging that they left important stuff out, cinematically it's just not that vital.
I'm not that bothered by what they left out, only that some of the events are over too quickly and that some of the characters are like cameos. I think on the whole they did a great job with a massive book.

I agree, I wouldn't of wanted two films for them to cover the whole book, it's a long enough wait for the films to be made and released as it is! Oh well, roll on OotP next year!

The first film is called 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' - but the American title is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, depending on what country you're from
